The Simple Truth Most People Don’t Want To Accept

‘All events of wealth are preceded by process, a backstory of trial, risk, hard work and sacrifice.’ – MJ Demarco, the Millionaire FASTLANE!

Remember that overnight sensation who became an all star in the NBA? What about the multi-millionaire who made $100 Million after selling their startup?

Most individuals see the final results and are so focused on lagging metrics. Most individuals don’t want to face the reality of putting in the hard work. Most individuals are looking for the get out of jail free card to propel them to that next level.

What if I told you, very simply, you have to put in the time and effort if you want to succeed in whatever your goals are. This is a simple truth the human mind struggles to cope with. We have grown up and are living in a day and age where people feel entitled to that next big promotion, free two day delivery of packages (funny thing you don’t realize you are actually paying for it), or the car or home they have always dreamed of. All of these things are well and good, but where has the mindset gone of putting in the work and busting your ass for what you want.

I don’t agree with the money mindset my parents have and still have, but one of the things I am most thankful for is their obsession of instilling a great work ethic into both my brother and I. My dad used to always tell us, “If you aren’t going to do it right the first time, you might as well not do it at all.” Have you ever heard that phrase? It was one of those phrases where you knew you had messed up big time if your parents had to say. I heard it a lot as a younger kid growing up.

This instilled a drive and work ethic in me I am forever grateful for.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hard focused work will trump almost everything
  • People too often are focused on the end result versus focusing on accumulating actions every day to put yourself in a position to reach the end goal
  • Sometimes you have to risk it for the biscuit

Why Your Thoughts Shape Your Environment

Have you ever wondered why what you think about typically turns into your reality? I was listening to a podcast the other day where they author of the book The 4 Disciplines of Execution started speaking about confirmation bias. To check this podcast out follow this link: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/biggerpockets-podcast-328-laser-focus-wildly-important-author-chris-mcchesney/

Ever heard of this concept? Per googles search engine definition, confirmation bias is

Ok, now that seems a little ambiguous. So what exactly does this mean? To me, this means your mind focuses on and believes what you want to believe. Let me give you an example, have you ever had a friend, family member, or loved one purchase a new car they rave about? Did you all of a sudden begin noticing you purposefully start to see more of these cars as you drive around? Hmm, strange don’t you think? Nothing has changed, just the fact you had someone you knew speak highly of the car.

In our everyday life, we focus on what we want to focus on. If you want to be negative, focus on the negative things going on in your life. If you want to be positive, focus on and be grateful for all the amazing things you have going on in your life. I find this is something I continue to think more and more about.

How does confirmation bias impact your daily life? Do you have any varying beliefs on what confirmation bias means to you? Would love to hear your thoughts.
