Successful People Enjoy The Process – Not the Destination

“Success is a journey not a destination.”

There are many issues with the day and age we live in. There is a constant need for instant gratification. Instant. Believe it or not, this is by design. There are hundreds of thousands of people whose sole job is to give you hits of dopamine all day. Look at the things we have on our phone. The advertisements you are bombarded with every day. The amount of devices that we have where the sole purpose of the device is to grab your attention.

Enjoy The Process

Focus on understanding the end goal and what needs to be done to get there. Most successful people, who are self made, have loved the process of getting there. Many times, we get so caught up in the end goal, that we forget to enjoy the process of getting there. We get too caught up in the day in and day out. Don’t forget to take a step back and enjoy what is unfolding.

You have one shot at life. You can choose to be miserable, or you can choose to reflect. Don’t be overly consumed with the end goal. If you aren’t enjoying the process to get to the end goal, you won’t be satisfied. The main problem in our society is the Digital Age we live in.

The Issue With The Digital Age

The largest issue we have is machine learning and the digital age. Algorithms are getting more and more intelligent to show you exactly what you want to see. If you google search something on your phone, there is a good chance you will see an advertisement for that very thing while scrolling social media. This has started to create a culture where people are used to instant gratification. We are being trained to make impulse decisions. In seconds.

The Issue With Social Media

The next major problem we have are the influencers of our generation. You have the people like Gary V. who are very much about work ethic and empathy and patience. Then you have the flip side where individuals show off their material things to get your attention. As you can see, I am not biased one way or the other 😉

What Is Important to Not Lose Sight Of

Don’t let social media fool you. Don’t let the flashy things people advertise fool you. Successful people are the product of one of two things. Busting their ass or being born into wealth. Understand how to see the difference.

The greatest example of someone who is self made and big in the social media world is Gary Vaynerchuk. There is one problem with Gary V. though. It isn’t fault of his own. He even talks about it all the time. Patience, hard work, and empathy. Gary continues giving the same advice to many of the individuals he speaks with every day.

Key Takeaways:

  • Enjoy the process, trust the process
  • Success will only be worth reaching if you are enjoying every minute of getting there.
  • Don’t be tricked by the Digital Age. Instant gratification is not the goal. Long term happiness with what you are doing is the goal.

Start – The Four Things You Need to Start to Become the Next Great Version of Yourself

The other day I wrote a blog post about what I believe people need to STOP!

Now, it is time to talk about what people should START! These are things everyone can see benefits from. It doesn’t matter where you are in your life or path to Financial Independence, these are for you!

Start Being Grateful

Gratitude is one of the most powerful things you can feel. There are so many things that surround you everyday to be grateful for. If you look at the world we live in, there is so much to be grateful for. The technology we have these days allows us to connect and do things never imagined before. The world of social media allows us to connect with others in the world we would have never known of. The ability to seek out wealth through your own personal means has never been more available.

When I look back at this year, here are some of the things I am grateful for:

Start Investing

Yes! That’s right. Start investing. Let me make sure you fully understand what I mean by investing. In my eyes, there are two types of investing.

First, you need to begin investing in yourself! Invest time in educating yourself in whatever fields intrigue you. Invest time and energy reaching out and connecting with people who are where you want to be. Most of this type of investing can be at $0 cost to you. There are so many incredible resources out there to learn from. I hope you are using my blog as one of those.

Second, you need to actually begin investing! There are so many different ways to begin investing. I have chosen to take the route of investing in two things. Index funds and real estate. Before you go off and begin investing, make sure to do the proper research. At least begin investing in your retirement accounts and increase the percent contribution by 1% every two months. Trust me, you won’t even notice the difference in your take home pay.

Start Taking Action

The single biggest piece of advice I gave on my first podcast interview, you can watch here. Don’t get into the analysis paralysis. The only way you can begin down the path you want to be on is by taking action. There are a ton of people talking about how hot the markets and housing market are. Yes, these statements are true as numbers don’t lie, but what if next year is the same. What if the market continues going up and up and up? Will you be glad you were sitting on the sidelines the entire time?

The goal is to invest early and often! Continue taking daily action and learn from the decisions you make. Be reflective on your thought process and the inputs that drive the outputs. If another year goes by and you haven’t taken action, how will you feel?

Once I get home in Orlando, I plan to get a property under contract to do my second house hack by the end of January! Can’t wait to document my journey to hold myself accountable!

Start Killing Automatic Negative Thoughts

The first time I heard about this came from Jim Kwik. If you haven’t heard of the guy, you need to go research him. Jim speaks about killing A.N.T.s. These are Automatic Negative Thoughts.

What are Automatic Negative Thoughts? These are the thoughts that go on in your mind whether you consciously know it. Have you ever stopped to hear what thoughts go on in your mind? It is very interesting to evaluate whether those thoughts are positive or negative. For any negative thoughts that surface, kill them! You are better than that. Imagine if you killed all the negative thoughts you had throughout the day. You would be so much happier and more grateful. So start killing A.N.T.s!

Work Ethic – The Most Undervalued Trait Missing In Today’s Society

Mixing things up on this Wisdom Wednesday. This week, I wanted to share an incredible book I finished listening to on Audible.

The book is ‘Can’t Hurt Me’ by David Goggins. This particular version from Audible was particularly interesting. David Goggins has open discussion between chapters where him and the individual reading the book discuss the chapter. You hear unfiltered context after each chapter to gain further insight into Goggins.

Who is David Goggins? Goggins is one of the most mentally tough individuals in the world. As he describes in his book, this is mainly driven off his work ethic and his focus on pushing his body. Goggins completed a 100 mile race with 0 training and a week advanced notice. He completed hell week in Seal training twice. He has completed many 135 mile races that only the most elite of elite athletes dare to attempt. He holds a world record for most pullups in a 24 hour period at 4,030. To put it in Goggins words, “I am the baddest m***** f******* around.” I would agree haha.

Here are the main things I took away from the book:

  1. His famous 40% rule: “When you think you’re done, you’re only at 40% of your bodies capability.” Goggins speaks to his firm belief of how 99.999% of people give up when they have only given 40% of their potential. He is a firm believer that people are capable of pushing themselves 60% further.
  2. Work ethic is the single most important thing. This is a mindset shift. You have to be willing to endure things most aren’t willing to endure to be extraordinary.
  3. Most people say they don’t have time to do a lot of the personal development or things that would help them realize greater potential. They don’t realize the vast amount of time they are wasting by sleeping in. Goggins starts his days off at 4am with a 6-10 mile run. He then eats breakfast and proceeds to ride his bike for 20 miles into work. By 9am he has already accomplished what most don’t in a weeks time. The time exists if you make certain sacrifices in your life. This isn’t for most people. Leave the mornings for me.
