Your Phone Isn’t Worthy of Your Morning!!!!

This weeks ridiculous challenge: No phone time for the first 30 minutes of each day.

Yeah. You read that right. No phone for the first 30 minutes of the day. But YRB33, I set my alarm each morning to wake up to on my phone. Oh boo hoo. You can go buy a $5 alarm clock. Crazy enough those still exist today. Go get one!

Why this challenge? I continue hearing the ability to control your first and last hours of the day to be critical. What better way that having a Miracle Morning with no screen time beforehand.

There is one fundamental issue with screen time first thing in the morning. You are not in full control of what you might see and how seeing that will make you feel. When you have 0 screen time in the first 30 minutes of the day, you have complete control of what you see and think about. This is true power.

Benefits I Expect To See

There are a few key benefits I expect to see from doing this challenge.

  1. I expect my eyes to feel less strained! Ever noticed how your eyes feel drowsy after too much screen time? This might be me, but my eyes are always struggling after looking at a screen for too much time.
  2. I will have complete control of my thoughts in the morning. I will also have much more control over my time in the morning. There are many times when I go to check social media with the expectation of spending 5 minutes. That 5 minutes turns into 30 and now I am in a rush to go somewhere. Take control of your time and mindset!
  3. The first 30 minutes of your day are critical to setting your day up to be productive. Focusing on a morning routine will allow you to clear your mind and take full advantage of the first hour.

I am sure there are many other benefits to no screen time in the first 30 minutes of your day. These are a few that come to mind for me.

I thought the cold shower challenge the other week was pushing it, but this might cross the line. I am super interested to see if anyone else is willing to take this challenge with me. If you already do this, more power to you! That is awesome and you are awesome!

Key Takeaways:

  1. Control your thoughts at the beginning of your day to have the ability to control what you see.
  2. Challenge yourself to do things that feel uncomfortable. This is something that I will definitely struggle with.
  3. Go buy an old fashioned alarm clock! They actually exist and were the main source of waking people up prior to the smartphone.

Take A COLD Shower! There Are Massive Benefits

Oh yeah. You read that right. Ready for this weeks challenge?!

Take a cold shower every day this week!

Now let me start with the why first and acknowledging I have more than likely lost 70% of the audience already.

Benefits of taking a cold shower in the morning:

  1. Life is all about doing things that are difficult. Taking a cold shower is a cringe worthy thing to think about. When completing this task early in the morning, you have completed a difficult task right off the bat!
  2. Cold showers promote fat loss!
  3. Cold showers improve immunity by reducing inflammation and increases circulation in your body
  4. Cold showers lower stress and chances of depression
  5. Cold showers enhance your skin and hair! According to cold showers help seal the hair shaft. Being a male I have no idea what that means, but I guess it is a good thing.

There are many more benefits you can read up on that I have not described above. I wanted to provide more context on the benefits before you dismiss the notion. I have listened to some of the most powerful speakers (Tom Bilyeu, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Wim Hof) talk about the power of taking a cold shower. The benefits far outway feeling “uncomfortable” for 30 seconds in the morning.

Are You Up For the Challenge?

So what do you think? Are you willing to take the leap and take a cold shower each morning this week? If you are not willing to take a full cold shower, you can always finish off your shower with 30 seconds of cold water. There is a large benefit even if the “cold” is only felt for 30 seconds. I usually take one deep breath to focus my concentration before the cold hits.

Challenge yourself! Step outside the norms and knock off a difficult thing at the very beginning of your day! You will feel rewarded after getting out. I promise. Every morning I get out of the shower with a bit of an adrenaline rush. See if you get the same benefits.

Key Takeaways:

  • Completing a difficult task in the morning will give you a sense of accomplishment from the get go!
  • There are many psychological and physical benefits to taking a cold shower
  • If you aren’t willing to challenge yourself to do things that are difficult, I guess you can stay with the pack. Be different. Try to do things that make others look at you like you are crazy.

90 Day Challenge – No Drinking!

I am ready to challenge myself! Do something that will be difficult. I am sure my friends and family will think I am crazy, but that is fine by me 🤗

My 90 Day Challenge:

I am committing to no drinking for 90 days!

Now the truth is I actually started this challenge on June 22nd (today is July 28th). I let my accountability partner know about this challenge and have stuck in strong up to this point. For some reason I decided the hardest time to take on this challenge. To this point I have had to pass up drinking at: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  1. An open bar event with Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents from my company⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  2. My 27th birthday⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  3. July 4th celebrations ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  4. An open bar at a best friends wedding⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  5. Every flight I have made for work that has had free alcohol⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  6. Celebrating a friends 40th birthday⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I am working harder to push myself to do things most wouldn’t. My family all thinks I am crazy for even attempting. I don’t mind others opinions and thoughts on the subject though. I will continue pushing myself to do things others think is crazy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Benefits I Have Already Seen⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Something that has been interesting has been the benefits I have seen from this.

  1. Save so much money! Not sure why I didn’t think about this, but a large chunk of my Entertainment spend has been alcohol. Will see how my monthly spending reduces with cutting alcohol out.
  2. Don’t have to worry about hangovers. It is tough to be hungover when you don’t drink anything! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  3. Can be the designated driver for the party! Now my friends and family don’t have to worry about paying for an Uber if we go out. Benefit for them I guess haha⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  4. My body generally feeling better. The elimination of alcohol has made my body feel much better! I am also working to cut processed foods from my diet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

All in all, I am excited to see this 90 day challenge through! The 90th day will be September 20th. Time to get it and continue strong!

Key Takeaways:

  • Challenge yourself every day to do something difficult. Challenge yourself to do something that will make others think you are crazy.
  • Find yourself an accountability partner that you commit to. I reached out to someone to tell them what I planned to do. Having someone you commit a challenge to is important.
  • Cutting out alcohol can save you a significant amount of money. I would say most people in their 20’s spend a significant amount of money each month on alcohol. Last month I spent roughly $200 on alcohol.
